Questions about your backups

Where can I keep my backups?

Choose a local folder or external drive, an SFTP server, S3-compatible storage, Backblaze B2, or an optional rclone destination. Cloud storage requires your own provider account and may have separate fees.

Can I recover an older version of a file?

Yes. Browse backups by date, search for a file, and restore selected files or folders to a location you choose.

Can I use my backups on another computer?

Backup My Computer uses restic, an open-source backup tool. Its portable backup format can also be opened with compatible restic tools on Mac, Windows, and Linux. Keep your password somewhere safe: you need it to unlock your backups.

When do scheduled backups run?

Scheduled backups run while the app is running. You can also turn on launch at login to keep it available.
